Tata Power Takes Delivery of First Battery Energy Storage Systems from Tata AutoComp

In a significant milestone, Tata Power has officially received its initial shipment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) from Tata AutoComp, a well-known auto-component conglomerate. The BESS units are designated for deployment in the construction of a 120 MW Energy Storage Park in Chhattisgarh.

Concurrently, Tata AutoComp has inaugurated a cutting-edge manufacturing facility dedicated to Battery Energy Storage Systems, marking a pivotal step in its collaboration with Tata Power. The ceremony, attended by Praveer Sinha, CEO&MD of Tata Power, and Arvind Goel, Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems Limited, highlighted the strategic importance of this venture.

Joint Venture and Technology Synergy

Manufactured under the joint venture Tata AutoComp Gotion Green Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the Li-Ion-based BESS units are poised to play a crucial role in addressing the intermittency challenges associated with solar and wind energy resources.

Tata Power’s Green Energy Transition Strategy

Praveer Sinha, CEO&MD of Tata Power, emphasized the pivotal role of energy storage in the context of the increasing prominence of renewables. He underscored the integration of these BESS units into Tata Power’s renewable sites, facilitating a consistent supply of clean power and expediting the transition to green energy.

Facility Capacity and Industry Impact

Spanning an area of 22,227 square feet, the newly inaugurated BESS facility boasts a capacity of 6 GWH, positioning it to serve the burgeoning energy storage industry. Tata AutoComp’s strategic collaboration with Tata Power is expected to have a significant impact on the evolving energy storage landscape.

Strategic Agreement and Industry Pioneering

Tata AutoComp had previously entered into a strategic agreement with Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, to supply BESS units for various renewable projects. Arvind Goel, Chairman of Tata AutoComp, highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging its automotive expertise to cater to emerging markets with technological synergy. Having pioneered Li-Ion-based Battery packs and Battery Management Systems for the Electric Vehicle segment, Tata AutoComp is now channeling its knowledge to manufacture Battery Energy Storage Systems. These BESS units will be supplied to Tata Power, a leading integrated energy company within the Tata Group.
