Tata Motors has agreed to set up a modern vehicle manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, investing Rs. 9,000 crores and creating about 5,000 job opportunities, announced TN Industries Minister TRB Rajaa on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter).
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place in Chennai, attended by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and top Tata Motors officials.
In response to the MoU, Tata Motors confirmed the collaboration in a stock exchange filing, stating that teams from Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion agency, Guidance, and Tata Motors Group will collaborate to advance this initiative.
This new plant will be Tata Motors’ second facility in southern India, following the one in Dharwad, Karnataka. It marks Tamil Nadu’s second significant automobile investment, following the upcoming manufacturing operations of Vietnamese automaker VinFast in Thoothukudi.
TN Industries Minister Rajaa expressed pride in attracting two major automobile investments in just two months, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s status as a preferred investment destination.
He emphasized Tamil Nadu’s evolution into an investment hub, creating ample job opportunities and showcasing the state’s industrial capabilities. Rajaa stressed that these initiatives are not just about building factories but about realizing aspirations and propelling towards a brighter future.
