Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has signed an agreement with Tata Group’s Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited (APPL) and the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) to boost tourism in Assam.
The signing ceremony took place at Lok Sewa Bhawan with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran in attendance.
As part of this agreement, a Taj Resort and Spa will be built with an investment of Rs. 120 crores. APPL and IHCL will develop hotel and hospitality infrastructure in Kaziranga. ATDC will act as the nodal agency for the project on behalf of the Assam government.
Chief Minister Sarma expressed gratitude to Tata Group for partnering with Assam to promote eco-tourism. He said the project will create at least 200 direct jobs and enhance luxury hospitality in Kaziranga. He highlighted that the signing marked a significant day for Assam, as it also included the start of a semiconductor unit in Jagiroad.
Sarma had requested the Tata Group to establish a five-star hotel in the state. With this agreement, the need for such a hotel in Kaziranga will be fulfilled, boosting Assam’s economy. He thanked Tata Group for choosing Assam as an investment destination and assured state government support for the projects.
Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran praised Assam’s natural beauty, saying it has the potential to become a world-class tourist destination. He announced that the Vivanta hotel chain in Guwahati will be upgraded to a Taj Hotel and that a Taj Gateway hotel will be built between Guwahati and Jagiroad.
