Supreme Court Probes Patanjali for Selling Banned Products Despite Official Ban

The Supreme Court of India has asked Patanjali Ayurved to prove that it has stopped selling and advertising 14 banned products. These products were banned by the Uttarakhand state licensing department in April.

Despite the ban, a report from the Hindustan Times found that many of these products are still available in Patanjali stores across New Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, and Dehradun. Reporters bought these products from different stores, with receipts to prove the purchases. Some store staff even promised to restock the banned items within a week.

The Uttarakhand government mentioned in an affidavit that the ban was lifted for procedural reasons, but new notices were issued on July 8. However, Patanjali’s lawyer stated that the company had not been officially informed about this and is following the Supreme Court’s orders to stop selling the products.

The Supreme Court has now ordered Patanjali to file an affidavit within two weeks to confirm whether they have complied with the ban. The next hearing is scheduled for July 30.

During visits to various stores, Hindustan Times reporters found that staff were generally unaware of the ban and continued to sell the products. Some claimed that the ban was just a rumor or a media conspiracy.

The 14 banned Patanjali products are: Swasari Gold, Swasari Vati, Bronchom, Swasari Pravahi, Swasari Avaleh, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, BP Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, Eyegrit Gold, and Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop.
