Anil Makhija, the COO of BookMyShow’s parent company Big Tree Entertainment, met with Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Monday. This comes after a complaint was filed accusing BookMyShow, Live Nation Entertainment, and their top executives of unfair practices during ticket sales for Coldplay’s upcoming India tour.
A Mumbai lawyer has alleged that the companies used bots to manipulate ticket sales, prompting the police to investigate. If their initial enquiry finds evidence of wrongdoing, an official case (FIR) could be filed. Otherwise, the matter will be closed.
On September 22, when tickets for the Coldplay concert went live, BookMyShow’s website crashed due to high demand, sparking customer frustration. BookMyShow denied any ticket scalping or manipulation, stating that they did their best to ensure fairness, limiting tickets to four per person. They also said they filed their own complaint against ticket reselling.
