Bank Holiday for Mahashivratri 2024: Banks to remain closed in these cities

On March 8, 2024, Mahashivratri will be observed, leading to bank closures in specific cities across India. While banks remain closed nationwide on gazetted holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti, festivals such as Mahashivratri prompt state-specific bank holidays.

Cities like Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Dehradun, Hyderabad (AP and Telangana), Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram will experience bank closures on Mahashivratri.

Additionally, Bihar observes state-specific holidays around this time, including Bihar Diwas on March 22 and Yaosang’s second day/Holi on March 26 and 27. March further holds national holidays like Holi on March 25 and Good Friday on March 29.

Regular closures, such as the second Saturday (March 9), the fourth Saturday (March 23), and Sundays throughout March, are also part of the bank holiday schedule. Although physical bank branches will be closed on these days, online banking services and ATMs will continue to operate seamlessly.

It’s important to note that online banking remains functional, ensuring continued access to banking services despite physical branch closures. The state-centric approach to holiday observance highlights the diverse cultural and regional celebrations across India.
