In a significant move aimed at promoting career opportunities among the youth in Northeast India, Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker, has forged a strategic partnership with the Indian Navy. Together, they have launched the “Khamree Mo Sikkim” outreach program, emphasizing their joint commitment to the development and empowerment of the Northeastern region.
To kick off this initiative, a remarkable 6,500-kilometer expedition was inaugurated from the Lonavala naval base in Maharashtra. This extraordinary journey will see the participation of 45 dedicated Navy officials, who will embark on this adventure in five vehicles, including three of Maruti Suzuki’s robust Jimny off-roaders and two flagship Grand Vitara All Grip SUVs.
The expedition route traverses through significant cities and regions, including Mhow, Jhansi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Bagdogra, Gangtok, Lachen, Gurudongma, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, and Hyderabad, as outlined in the official press release by the company.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed his pride in the collaboration with the Indian Navy’s ‘Khamree Mo Sikkim’ initiative, highlighting its embodiment of India’s unwavering spirit. Commodore Mohit Goel, Commanding Officer of INS Shivaji, emphasized that this initiative is a dedicated effort to contribute to the progress and well-being of Northeast India. He outlined the primary goal of enlightening and inspiring the region’s youth about the abundant opportunities within the navy while also strengthening ties with local communities.
The expedition has been meticulously planned in three distinct stretches, each with a specific focus and purpose. Stretch 1 will commence from INS Shivaji and extend to Bagdogra. Stretch 2 will encompass the beautiful landscapes of Sikkim, and finally, Stretch 3 will journey from Gangtok, Sikkim, back to INS Shivaji, with a particular emphasis on empowering youth in rural areas along the eastern coastal region.
