Yamuna Expressway Toll Hike Starts October 1 – Here’s How Much More You’ll Pay

Starting October 1, toll rates on the Yamuna Expressway will increase for the first time since September 2022, as decided by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). This hike is expected to raise daily toll collections to around ₹1 crore, impacting commuters and tourists traveling to Agra and Mathura.

The toll hike follows Mumbai-based Suraksha Group’s takeover of Jaypee Infratech Ltd, the company that previously managed the expressway.

New Toll Rates:

  • Motorcycles: Up from ₹1.25/km to ₹1.5/km (20% increase).
  • Private cars and four-wheelers: Up from ₹2.6/km to ₹2.95/km (13.5% increase).
  • Light commercial vehicles: Up from ₹4.15/km to ₹4.6/km (10.8% increase).
  • Buses and heavy trucks: Up from ₹8.45/km to ₹9.35/km (10.7% increase).
  • Multi-axle and oversized vehicles: Now ₹14.25/km and ₹18.35/km respectively.

This toll hike is part of a resolution plan approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) during Suraksha’s acquisition of Jaypee. The plan includes annual toll hikes, though this was delayed for over a year due to discussions.

YEIDA officials had previously requested a revenue and traffic report from Jaypee in light of the upcoming Jewar International Airport but no changes were made to toll rates until now.

The expressway, built by Jaypee in 2012, was a significant project that also included plans for 30,000 flats in Noida and Greater Noida. After financial troubles and a long legal battle, Suraksha took over the company in June 2024, with the toll hike being a part of the deal.
