Vistara has announced plans to cancel around 25-30 flights per day in April to manage crew shortages. The airline normally operates about 350 flights daily. This decision may lead to increased fares, particularly on metro routes. On the busy Delhi-Mumbai route, Vistara runs approximately 18 flights daily, just behind IndiGo’s 19 flights.
In a statement on Sunday, Vistara stated, “We are reducing our operations by about 10% to around 25-30 flights per day, bringing us back to our February 2024 levels.”
While Vistara had received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to increase summer flight operations by 22%, the recent crew shortages have prompted the airline to scale back.
Most of the flight cancellations will affect domestic routes, providing flexibility in the schedules. Vistara faced criticism from passengers after cancelling over 150 flights recently due to pilot unavailability. Some first officers reached their monthly flying limit, leaving the airline short-staffed.
Vistara’s CEO, Vinod Kannan, acknowledged the challenges and mentioned plans to hire more pilots while adjusting operations to ensure schedule reliability.”
