Uttarakhand Cracks Down on Adulterated Desi Ghee and Butter with Statewide Raids

In response to rising concerns about food safety, Uttarakhand has launched a major campaign to stop the sale of adulterated desi ghee and butter. This effort is being carried out under the orders of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat. The campaign, led by the Food Safety and Drug Controller Department, is active across all districts of the state.

Key Actions Taken:

  1. Statewide Campaign
The campaign targets desi ghee and butter sellers throughout Uttarakhand. In addition to ghee and butter, food safety officers are collecting samples from sweet shops for testing. According to Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar, strict measures will be taken against those found selling adulterated products.
  2. Union Health Ministry’s Directive
The Union Health Ministry has also instructed all states to check the quality of laddus and the ghee sold in markets. Following these instructions, Uttarakhand has intensified its raids on sweet shops and vendors.
  3. District-Wise Raids
Officers from the Food Department, led by Tajbar Jaggi, are conducting raids across the state, including urban and rural areas of Dehradun and Haldwani. Samples from various brands such as Paras, Pehelwan, Mother Dairy, and Health Made Desi Ghee are being collected and sent for testing.
  4. Testing and Follow-Up
Once the test results come back from the laboratory, authorities will take the necessary action based on the findings. The inspections are part of a broader plan to ensure that food products in Uttarakhand meet safety and quality standards.

This initiative shows the state government’s commitment to protecting consumers from unsafe and adulterated food products.
