Users Criticize Elon Musk’s Claims About X’s Child Safety

Elon Musk recently claimed that his platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), is safer for children than Meta’s Instagram. This statement has sparked a lot of debate, with many social media users criticizing X for hosting adult content that is not suitable for children.

Musk posted on X, saying the platform does more to fight child exploitation than any other. He encouraged users to share family pictures on X, claiming it has better safety measures. He also shared a meme from “The Simpsons” to illustrate his point. The meme shows two men outside a building with the Instagram logo, suggesting there might be “nice photos” inside.

Musk’s post quickly went viral, reaching almost 14 million views within a few hours. It also received many comments from users, some of whom disagreed with his claim, pointing out the presence of adult content on X.

What Did X Users Say About Elon Musk’s Post?

Elon Musk’s claim that his platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), is safer for children than Instagram received a lot of criticism from users. Here’s what some of them had to say:

“Many will be understandably apprehensive about that, to be honest. Still need to get rid of all the porn bots and spam plaguing X,” one user commented.

Another user added that no one should be posting photos of their children on the open internet.

“The majority of my audience are young teenagers, and every time I post something, there is at least one ‘nude in my bio’ reply. Not only that, but people use trending hashtags to post violence and sex to get more impressions. I mean, come on,” another user commented.

“I recently went through two years of posts to delete any pictures of my son. I don’t love the ‘nude in bio’ replies under a picture of my toddler,” another user expressed.

“X is literally loaded with porn. It’s in my comments all the time,” another user countered Musk’s claim. “No. Photos of my children will never be posted on the internet,” added another.

A few months earlier, the US Senate Judiciary Committee questioned the CEOs of major social media platforms, including Meta, X, and TikTok, about their efforts to protect teenagers and children from online dangers. Lawmakers accused these companies of not doing enough to block sexual predators and prevent teen suicides, according to Al Jazeera.
