THDCIL to Invest ₹8,800 Crore in Major Pumped Storage Projects in Rajasthan

THDC India Ltd (THDCIL), a state-owned company, has signed a deal with the Rajasthan government to build 1,600 MW of pumped storage projects (PSPs) with an investment of ₹8,800 crore. This agreement involves developing two 800 MW PSPs—one at Bisanpura in Bundi and another at Rampura in Tonk.

The Bisanpura project will draw water from the Gudha Dam, while the Rampura project will use water from the Bisalpur reservoir. This strategy ensures a steady water supply and minimizes environmental impact, making both projects important for sustainable energy solutions and improving grid stability.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by THDCIL Director (Technical) Bhupender Gupta and Rajasthan’s Principal Secretary for Industries & Commerce, Ajitabh Sharma, in New Delhi, with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma present. The Chief Minister promised full support to ensure the projects are completed efficiently and on time.

Originally established in 1988 as a single hydro project company, THDCIL now manages a portfolio of nine projects across hydro, thermal, wind, and solar energy, totaling 4,351 MW, including 1,587 MW already operational and 2,764 MW under construction.
