THDC and Maharashtra Join Forces for 6 Mega Hydro Projects Worth Over ₹33,600 Crore

THDC India Ltd, a state-owned company, has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to develop six pumped hydro storage projects with a combined capacity of 6,790 MW. These projects will require an investment of over ₹33,600 crore.

The agreement covers everything from conducting surveys and investigations to preparing detailed project reports and setting up the projects on time. This partnership will help THDC tap into the unused potential of hydro storage projects in Maharashtra.

The six planned projects include:

  • Malshej Ghat (700 MW)
  • Aruna (1,950 MW)
  • Kharari (1,250 MW)
  • Humbarli Birmani (1,000 MW)
  • Aruna Kolamb (1,200 MW)
  • Morawadi Majarewadi (690 MW)

The Maharashtra government will help allocate water for these projects, covering both the initial filling and annual needs. THDC will create detailed reports for each project and submit them for approval to the Central Electricity Authority and Maharashtra’s Department of Water Resources.
