Guwahati: Tata Electronics is investing Rs 27,000 crore in a new semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, Assam. The groundbreaking ceremony, known as Bhumi pujan, was held on Saturday, and the facility is expected to be up and running by 2025.

At the event, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran stated that the facility will eventually create 27,000 jobs, including 15,000 direct positions and 12,000 indirect ones. He emphasized the company’s commitment to completing the project quickly, aiming to finish construction and begin operations by 2025.

Chandrasekaran also mentioned that Tata has already hired 1,000 people from Assam. As the facility grows, it will attract other companies involved in the semiconductor supply chain to India.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that the state government will support Tata in setting up the facility smoothly. He expressed gratitude to Tata for choosing Assam over other states and noted that 1,000 local women have already been recruited and are receiving training in Hosur.
