Tata Power’s ₹1.2 Trillion Green Energy Push in Rajasthan: EV Charging, Solar Manufacturing, and Thousands of Jobs on the Horizon

Tata Power has signed an agreement with the Rajasthan government to invest in power distribution, transmission, and renewable energy projects, expanding its role in green energy within the state.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the ‘Rising Rajasthan Investor Meet’ in Delhi on Monday. The plan covers a range of projects, including solar energy, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, nuclear power, and rooftop solar systems.

Tata Power aims to supply clean, affordable, and reliable power around the clock, while also creating 28,000 jobs over the next 10 years. The company plans to help Rajasthan become a power surplus state, with significant investments in renewable energy, power distribution, and transmission.

The company will invest ₹1.2 trillion, of which ₹75,000 crore will go towards renewable energy projects. This will include 10 GW of power generation, split between 6 GW of solar energy and 4 GW hybrid projects, across Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur. Tata Power will also build a 2 GW solar module manufacturing plant in Jodhpur, costing ₹2,000 crore.

To modernize Rajasthan’s power grid and reduce energy losses, Tata Power will spend ₹30,000 crore on upgrading the state’s power infrastructure. Additionally, it is considering developing a nuclear power plant and will invest ₹1,000 crore to install 100,000 EV charging points across Rajasthan. The company will also set up rooftop solar systems for 1 million homes under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

This initiative supports India’s goal of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Tata Power emphasized that this investment will create more than 28,000 direct jobs and benefit local industries in solar manufacturing and renewable energy development.

Currently, Tata Power operates 1 GW of solar energy, 185 MW of wind power, and 130 MW of rooftop solar systems in Rajasthan.

Tata Power shares closed at ₹482.70 each on Monday on the BSE, down 0.49% from the previous closing price.
