Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a part of Tata Power, has won a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). This is the biggest renewable energy project for TPREL in Maharashtra so far.
The project includes an initial capacity of 200 MW, with an option to add another 200 MW later. MSEDCL, a company owned by the Maharashtra government, gave TPREL a Letter of Award (LoA) after a competitive bidding process through an online auction.
The project is expected to be finished within 24 months after TPREL signs a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL. Once complete, it will help reduce carbon emissions by around 895 million kilograms of CO2 every year.
The electricity produced by the wind-solar hybrid project will be supplied to MSEDCL, helping them meet their energy needs in an environmentally friendly way and boosting Maharashtra’s renewable energy use.
With this project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity has reached 10.5 GW, with 5.7 GW still under development and 4.8 GW already in operation, including 3.8 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy.
