Tata Play has expanded its services overseas by partnering with Akash Digital TV in Bangladesh. Akash Digital TV will use Tata Play Binge’s Cloud technology to make it easier for viewers to watch content from various OTT channels on a single screen through one app and subscription. This helps OTT aggregators focus on forming content partnerships and gaining subscribers.
A Significant Collaboration
Harit Nagpal, the managing director and CEO of Tata Play, called this partnership with Akash Digital TV a significant moment. He explained that international content delivery companies can benefit from Tata Play’s proven technology to create localized offerings for consumers at a low cost and quickly.
Nagpal told ET Online that Tata Play sees this as a chance to expand its platform internationally and generate revenue. By exposing the Tata Play Binge tech platform to a larger audience, the company aims to improve the platform as more users help identify and fix bugs, enhancing its quality and performance.
Introducing Akash Go
The product will be introduced as a companion app called Akash Go. This app will allow subscribers in Bangladesh to watch content on their mobile devices, offering access to live TV channels and video on demand. It will also provide personalized recommendations based on viewing habits. Akash Go will bring together a mix of local and global premium content and will be accessible to DTH subscribers of Akash Digital TV on both iOS and Android mobile phones.
Tata Play’s Global Expansion
Tata Play, India’s leading content distribution platform, launched Tata Play Binge PaaS for OTT aggregators worldwide last year. This enables Tata Play to provide end-to-end development and deployment opportunities. Previously, Tata Play collaborated with the Philippines’ leading Pay-TV provider Cignal TV. The company is in talks with many other players across the world who are interested in Tata Play’s tech solution for OTT aggregation. The offering in Bangladesh launched on July 8, and the launch with Cignal is expected soon.
Nagpal mentioned that Tata Play is in discussions with many potential partners globally, with several deals nearing closure.
Benefits of Tata Play Binge
Coming from the Tata group, Tata Play Binge is an OTT aggregation service that brings content from more than 30 apps into one app. Tata Play’s global expansion of this solution comes at a strategic time as the OTT market is rapidly growing. If aggregation becomes widely adopted globally, and more users recognize the benefits of a unified subscription model on a single platform, Tata Play could capitalize on this trend and expand its market presence.
Nagpal noted that companies partnering with Tata Play on this solution can save 75% of their time and 75% of the cost. Tata Play has already built the platform for the Indian market and is earning revenue from it. Offering the services to foreign markets now does not come at any additional cost, allowing Tata Play to deliver to clients at a reasonable rate.
