Tata Motors announced a 15% drop in its total domestic sales for September, with 69,694 units sold compared to 82,023 units in the same month last year. The company’s passenger vehicle sales, which include electric cars, were down by 8%, with 41,063 units sold last month versus 44,809 units in September 2023.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, explained that the auto industry saw a 5% drop in retail sales in the second quarter of FY25 compared to the previous year. This was due to slower consumer demand and seasonal factors, though many dealers stocked up in anticipation of a strong festive season.
Commercial vehicle sales took a bigger hit, dropping by 23%, with 28,631 units sold in September, compared to 37,214 in the same month last year. Executive Director Girish Wagh attributed the decrease to a slowdown in infrastructure projects, reduced mining activity, and lower fleet utilization due to heavy rains.
