Suditi Industries Revives Iconic Kidswear Brand Gini & Jony with Big Plans for Expansion

Textile manufacturer Suditi Industries has acquired popular kidswear brand Gini & Jony for an undisclosed amount, signaling its commitment to revitalizing the once-iconic label. Founded in 1980 by Prakash Lakhani, Gini & Jony operates through 700 sales points, including 59 standalone stores, over 70 large-format stores, and 600 distributors.

Acquisition Details

On November 14, Suditi’s board approved the acquisition of Gini & Jony’s intellectual property, including trademarks, domain names, and social media handles. The company plans to leverage its robust manufacturing capabilities to scale the brand.

“Suditi can produce fabrics for over 100,000 garments daily, translating to ₹6 crore in potential sales per day for Gini & Jony. This shows the massive growth we aim to achieve,” said Pawan Agarwal, Managing Director of Suditi Industries.

Gini & Jony’s Journey

Gini & Jony was a market leader in kidswear but struggled with financial troubles, including heavy debt and canceled expansion plans. Reliance Group acquired a minority stake in 2005, and by 2012, Reliance Capital held a 22% stake. However, a planned ₹125 crore IPO was scrapped, and the brand filed for corporate debt restructuring in 2011.

Suditi’s Expansion Vision

Suditi Industries, which also operates private labels like YouWeCan and Nush, is gearing up to rebuild Gini & Jony with an omni-channel approach. This strategy includes expanding into Exclusive Brand Outlets (EBOs), large-format stores, and online platforms.

“There are very few brands in India with a nationwide reach, and Gini & Jony has the highest brand recall in kidswear. We plan to honor its legacy while creating a powerhouse that caters to every Indian family,” said Harsh Agarwal, Chief Marketing Officer of Suditi Industries.

Kidswear Market Potential

With 340 million children under 14 in India, the demand for kidswear is rapidly growing. Suditi aims to capitalize on this trend, bringing Gini & Jony back to its leading position in the Indian market.

Suditi Industries believes this acquisition marks a new chapter for both companies, with plans to create a stronger, more recognizable kidswear brand for the future.
