Trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be closed today, March 8, 2024, in observance of Mahashivratri. This means there will be no buying or selling of stocks in the Indian stock market on this day. Both the BSE and NSE will remain closed for the entire Friday session.
As per the official list of stock market holidays on the BSE website (bseindia.com), there will be no activity in the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, and SLB Segment today. Additionally, trading in the Currency Derivatives Segment will also be suspended for the Mahashivratri 2024 festival celebration.
Regarding the Commodity market, trading in the Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment will be closed in the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, trading will resume in the evening session at 5:00 PM and continue until 11:55 PM. This means there will be no activity on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity Exchange) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but trading will take place in the evening.
Looking ahead, there are two more stock market holidays in March 2024 – on March 25th for Holi celebration and March 29th for Good Friday. In April 2024, there will be two holidays on April 11th for Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id) and April 17th for Ram Navami.
On regular days, the Indian stock market opens at 9:15 AM and closes at 3:30 PM. The pre-open session starts at 9:00 AM and lasts for 15 minutes. In the commodity segment, trading at MCX and NCDEX begins at 9:00 AM and follows two sessions – morning (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and evening (5:00 PM to 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM, depending on guidelines). Starting from March 11, 2024, the evening session in the commodity market will end at 11:30 PM.
