Samsung Resolves Strike at Chennai Facility: ₹5,000 Monthly Bonus and Better Working Conditions for Employees

Samsung India has signed an agreement with a group of workers at its Chennai facility to address their demands and end the strike that began on September 9, 2024. The agreement outlines steps to improve working conditions and address the concerns of the workers.

As part of the agreement, Samsung will introduce several measures to make the work environment better and will work closely with the workers’ committee to improve wages. Starting from October 2024 until March 2025, the company will provide a special productivity incentive of ₹5,000 per month to the workers. The final details of this payment will be decided in consultation with the workers.

This special incentive will also be considered during wage discussions for the 2025-26 year, where both sides will negotiate the yearly wage increase.

Samsung has also agreed to increase the number of air-conditioned buses for employees, expanding from just five routes to all 108 routes by next year. Additionally, the company will hold more family events, increasing them from four to six per year, and will offer a ₹2,000 gift to each family that attends these events.

In the unfortunate case of a worker’s death while on duty, the company will provide immediate assistance of ₹1 lakh to the family to help with urgent needs.

Other improvements Samsung plans to introduce include opening a new medical room, offering a wider variety of food in the cafeteria, raising meal allowances, upgrading break rooms and restrooms, replacing old lockers, adding canopies between buildings, and increasing vacation days for workers. Additionally, employees will receive a ₹2,000 gift card when they have a child.

These changes aim to address the concerns of the workers and improve their overall welfare at the Chennai facility.
