Reliance Retail Launches Fast Delivery Service in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

Reliance Retail has started testing a quick delivery service for groceries and FMCG products in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Orders in certain areas will be delivered within an hour, according to a senior industry executive.

Service Integration: This fast delivery service is available through the Jiomart mobile app as a ‘hyperlocal delivery’ option. Reliance aims to reduce delivery times to 30-45 minutes as more stores join the system and the service expands to other areas. Currently, the fastest delivery time for daily necessities is about 12 hours, with some orders taking up to three days.

Competition and Strategy: Companies like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and BB Now (from Tata-owned BigBasket) are delivering most orders within 10 minutes. Instead of competing in this rapid delivery race, which would require a large number of dark stores and delivery personnel, Reliance plans to fulfill orders from its existing store network and warehouses.

Local Store Collaboration: In areas with fewer stores, Reliance plans to collaborate with kirana stores that are part of the JioMart Partner initiative. These kiranas get their products from Reliance Retail’s wholesale division and have connected backends.

Technology and Future Plans: Reliance is using technology platforms like FYND and Locus to manage the fulfillment process and optimize delivery routes. The company also plans to offer hyperlocal delivery for apparel and electronic items in the future.

Management Team: To manage this new initiative, Reliance has formed a team including Damodar Mall, the CEO of Reliance Retail’s grocery business, and Sandeep Varaganti, the CEO of JioMart. This team will grow as more product categories are added.

Previously, Reliance paused its quick-commerce pilot, JioMart Express, in Navi Mumbai. This time, it has not used any specific branding for the service.
