RBI Warns of Fake Videos of Governor Shaktikanta Das Promoting Investment Schemes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has alerted the public about fake videos of Governor Shaktikanta Das circulating on social media. These “deepfake” videos falsely claim that the RBI is launching or supporting certain investment schemes.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 19, the RBI explained that these fake videos use advanced technology to manipulate visuals and audio to make it seem like the Governor is endorsing financial advice or investment options. The central bank emphasized that it does not promote or support any such schemes.

What Are Deepfake Videos?

Deepfake videos are made using artificial intelligence (AI) to create realistic but fake photos, videos, or audio. This technology can replace one person’s face or voice with another’s, making it appear authentic. With the rapid advancement of AI, identifying deepfakes has become challenging.

RBI’s Clarification

The RBI has strongly denied any involvement of its officials in these videos, labeling them as fake. “No RBI official is involved in or supports these activities. RBI does not provide financial investment advice,” the statement clarified.

The central bank also urged the public to remain cautious and avoid engaging with such misleading content to protect themselves from scams.
