The Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of Pradeep Kumar Sinha as the Part-time Chairman of ICICI Bank. Sinha will start his three-year term on July 1, 2024. He will take over from G. C. Chaturvedi, who is set to retire on June 30, 2024.
Sinha has extensive experience as a Government Nominee Director in several major public sector companies, including ONGC, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, and GAIL. He served on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) for about 7 years, and on the Boards of BPCL and HPCL for around 6 years each.
Sinha worked in the Power and Oil and Gas Ministries for about 15 years. He held roles such as Financial Advisor and Special Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Secretary for Ports and Shipping, and Secretary for Power. He has expertise in energy, infrastructure, transport, urban development, and finance sectors.
Who is Pradeep Kumar Sinha?
According to ICICI Bank’s website, Sinha joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1977 after earning a Master’s degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics in 1976. He graduated in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
Sinha served in Uttar Pradesh before moving to the Government of India, eventually becoming the Cabinet Secretary. He served as Cabinet Secretary for over four years and later moved to the Prime Minister’s Office. He retired in March 2021 after 44 years of continuous service.
