Rajasthan Set to Receive 600 MW of Solar Power from SJVN Green Energy

In a major development, SJVN Green Energy, a subsidiary of the state-owned power producer SJVN, has inked a long-term deal to supply 600 MW of solar electricity to Rajasthan. This involves 500 MW from the Bikaner Solar Power Project and another 100 MW from the Rajasthan Solar Power Project, both agreements extending over 25 years, according to a statement from the power ministry.

The agreement was signed on March 10, 2024, between SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) and Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL) in Jaipur. As per the deal, SGEL will provide 500 MW of power at a tariff of Rs. 2.57 per unit from the massive 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, making it the country’s largest single-location solar project. Located in Bikaner, Rajasthan, this project is anticipated to generate around 2,454.84 million units of energy in the first year and a cumulative energy of about 56,474 million units over 25 years.

The Bikaner Solar Power Project, costing Rs 5,491 crores, is scheduled for commissioning by September 30, 2024. SGEL has also secured agreements to supply 200 MW to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and 300 MW to Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL) as part of the full 1,000 MW project capacity. Another 100 MW of solar power will be supplied at a tariff of Rs. 2.62 per unit from a project SGEL won through competitive bidding. This second project is set to generate 252 million units of energy in the first year and a cumulative energy of 5,866 million units over 25 years.

The second project will be developed on 387.56 acres of land leased to SGEL by Sambhar Salts Limited in Nawa, Rajasthan. It will follow a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) model with a tentative cost of Rs. 550 crores.”
