Ola Electric Hit with Show-Cause Notice as Nearly 10,000 Consumer Complaints Flood In

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a show-cause notice to Ola Electric, one of India’s top electric two-wheeler companies, due to a large number of consumer complaints. Between September 1, 2023, and August 30, 2024, a total of 9,948 complaints were filed on the National Consumer Helpline against the company.

The complaints cover a variety of issues, including delayed deliveries, faulty vehicles, misleading advertisements, and poor customer service. According to the CCPA, these complaints suggest violations of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Key issues raised include:

  • Delayed Deliveries: 1,899 customers reported not receiving their electric scooters on time.
  • Slow Service: The largest number of complaints (3,364) were about delays in service and repairs.
  • Faulty Vehicles: Many customers reported defects in their Ola scooters, such as poor build quality and technical problems.
  • Misleading Advertisements: Some consumers accused Ola of exaggerating the performance and features of its products in ads.
  • Poor Customer Support: Many complaints were related to difficulties in reaching customer service, slow responses, and unsatisfactory problem-solving.

In response to the notice, Ola Electric has acknowledged receiving it and has promised to address the concerns raised. The company stated that it would submit a detailed response, including supporting documents, within the required 15-day period. Ola also clarified that the notice would not affect its financial or operational activities.

Ola Electric has recently made efforts to improve its service, such as expanding service touchpoints and partnering with certified service centers to reduce the workload at its main centers. Depending on the company’s response, the CCPA may take further actions, including requiring corrective measures.
