Nissan has started exporting its popular compact SUV, the Magnite, to South Africa, highlighting India’s role as a key manufacturing hub for the Japanese carmaker. In just a few weeks since launching the updated Magnite under its global “The Arc” strategy, Nissan has shipped 2,700 units to the South African market. The SUVs are produced at the Renault Nissan Automotive India plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.
Frank Torres, who oversees Nissan’s operations across Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania, said, “The Magnite has been a huge success in South Africa since its debut in 2020. The demand for this Made-in-India SUV continues to grow.”
The latest version of the Magnite was unveiled in New Delhi in October 2024. With its strong global appeal, Nissan plans to expand exports to more than 65 countries, including markets that require left-hand-drive vehicles.
Nissan Motor India emphasized that India plays a critical role in the company’s growth. “By focusing on both domestic sales and exports, we are delivering on The Arc strategy. The success of the Magnite further boosts India’s status as an export powerhouse,” added Torres.
