Jindal Stainless Supplies Steel for Vande Bharat Sleeper Coaches, Boosts Safety and Efficiency

Jindal Stainless announced that it has provided stainless steel for the Vande Bharat sleeper train coaches. The company supplied high-strength 301LN grade stainless steel for this important government project.

This stainless steel not only improves the performance and durability of the coaches but also reduces maintenance costs due to its resistance to rust. It is also designed to ensure passenger safety with its strong crash and fire resistance.

The use of stainless steel will make each coach about two tonnes lighter, leading to better energy efficiency and a lower carbon footprint, supporting modern rail transport’s sustainability goals. Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said that this new train shows off Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation and engineering excellence.

The first set of coaches will be sent from BEML’s Bengaluru plant on September 20, 2024, with the official launch expected by December 2024.

Jindal Stainless had a turnover of ₹38,562 crore in FY24 and is expanding its capacity to produce 4.2 million tonnes of steel annually by 2026. The company operates 16 manufacturing facilities across India and abroad, including in Spain and Indonesia, with a presence in 12 countries.
