India’s 5G and 6G Plans to Propel Growth and Drive Nation Toward Developed Status, Says Telecom Secretary

India is preparing for the 6G rollout after successfully launching 5G, and this advancement is expected to significantly boost the country’s growth towards becoming a developed nation, according to Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal. Mittal noted that the government has updated the 150-year-old Telegraph Act with a new Telecommunications Act, which is designed to be relevant for the next 20-30 years.

At the Prana public relations event, Mittal emphasized that the technology race is ongoing and stressed the need for Indian policymakers to visit global manufacturing hubs like Vietnam and China to learn from their successes. He expressed confidence that the 12 new industrial cities announced by the Union Cabinet will help India achieve its goals by 2047.

The Union Cabinet recently approved the development of 12 new industrial cities across 10 states with an investment of Rs 28,602 crore. These cities, planned along six major corridors, will be located in places such as Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab), Dighi (Maharashtra), Palakkad (Kerala), Agra and Prayagraj (UP), Gaya (Bihar), Zaheerabad (Telangana), Orvakal and Kopparthy (AP), and Jodhpur-Pali (Rajasthan). Mittal also highlighted that global firms with Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are growing at a rate of 10-12% annually.
