Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced big plans to help passengers travel easily during the upcoming Chhath Puja and Diwali festivals. On Friday, he shared that Indian Railways will add 12,500 extra coaches and introduce special trains to meet the high demand.
The minister stated, “This festive season, we are adding general coaches to 108 trains. A total of 12,500 coaches have been sanctioned for special Chhath Puja and Diwali trains. So far, 5,975 special trains have been approved for 2024-25. This will allow over 1 crore passengers to travel during the busy festive season.” Last year, 4,429 special trains were operated during the festive period.
In another recent update, on September 24, Vaishnaw inspected the new Kavach 4.0 system in Rajasthan. Kavach is a safety system that automatically applies brakes if a train goes beyond its speed limit or if the driver fails to do so. He mentioned that 10,000 trains will be equipped with Kavach technology in the coming years, and 9,000 additional kilometers of railway tracks will be covered.
Additionally, on September 20, the minister launched the Bharat Gaurav Train for a special India-Nepal tour, offering tourists the chance to explore the shared cultural heritage of both countries.
This festive travel boost comes as Indian Railways takes steps to improve safety and convenience for passengers across the country.
