Government Won’t Stop Airtel and Jio’s First Tariff Hike in 3 Years: Here’s Why

The Indian government and telecom regulator have decided not to stop telecom companies, including Airtel and Reliance Jio, from raising mobile tariffs, according to The Economic Times.

India’s telecom tariffs are among the lowest globally, and authorities have urged companies to focus on improving service quality. Officials stated that the situation is “not critical” despite the price increase.

“There is enough competition in the telecom sector, and the situation is not critical. Consumers may feel some pinch of the price rise, but the hike has happened after three years,” an official told ET.
