The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has extended the electric mobility promotion scheme (EMPS 2024) by two months, now ending on September 30, with an increased budget from ₹500 crore to ₹778 crore.
Originally set to finish on July 31, EMPS 2024 offers incentives for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, including e-rickshaws and e-carts, to encourage eco-friendly transportation. The scheme, which started on March 13, follows the FAME-II scheme that ended on March 31, and aims to make electric vehicles more affordable.
On July 23, the ministry mentioned limited funds for the scheme, initially allowing claims until the ₹500 crore budget was exhausted or until the end of July. With the additional ₹278 crore, the scheme now supports more vehicles and ensures continued EV incentives until the new FAME III scheme begins.
The extended budget includes ₹769.65 crore for vehicle subsidies and ₹8.35 crore for administrative costs. The revised targets support 560,789 electric vehicles, including 500,080 e-2Ws and 60,709 e-3Ws, equipped with advanced batteries to promote new technologies in the sector.
