Google Leases New Office Space in Bengaluru

Google has leased 649,000 square feet of office space in Alembic City, Whitefield, Bengaluru. The tech giant will pay ₹62 per square foot per month for a three-year lock-in period, as part of its plan to expand in India, according to sources familiar with the deal. This move aligns with Google’s strategy to lease both traditional and flexible office spaces in major cities to boost its presence.

In 2022, Google Connect Services India Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of the US tech giant, renewed a rental agreement for about 600,000 square feet of office space in Hyderabad. The company also agreed to lease 1.3 million square feet of office space from Bagmane Developers in Bangalore.

Since 2020, Google’s office space in India has grown by 3.5 million square feet. Now, Google has a presence in five Indian cities, covering a total of 9.3 million square feet of real estate.

Google did not respond to queries from ET. The company has planned significant investments in India, including manufacturing smartphones at a Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu and starting drone manufacturing in the state. Google plans to start producing Pixel smartphones in India, beginning with the Pixel 8 model. Reports also suggest the company is moving some roles to India, which is a rapidly growing market.

“India is a priority market for Pixel smartphones, and we’re committed to bringing the best of our hardware and software to people across the country,” Google said in a blog post earlier this month.

India’s office market is expected to see strong demand this year as major IT firms resume offline work after the pandemic. Large companies anticipate a significant increase in demand for flexible workspaces in the coming year.
