Early on Tuesday, five wagons of an empty goods train derailed at New Maynaguri station in West Bengal’s Alipurduar Division. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and train services have not been seriously disrupted, as operations have been diverted to other routes.
Senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Alipurduar, are at the scene to oversee the situation. Restoration work is already in progress to get the station, which has five active lines, back to normal soon.
Mukesh Kumar, the station superintendent, confirmed that the derailment happened around 6:20 am. DRM Amarjit Gautam added that the cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
