Tesla founder Elon Musk has once again voiced his strong support for solar energy. In a tweet, he explained, “Once you understand the Kardashev Scale, it becomes obvious that almost all energy in the future will come from solar power.”
The Kardashev Scale is a way to measure how advanced a civilization is based on the amount of energy it can use. It was created by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev.
Musk also shared that simple math shows how solar power can easily meet the energy needs of the entire U.S. “Just do the math on solar energy on Earth. A small area in Texas or New Mexico could provide enough electricity for the entire country. One square mile gets about 2.5 Gigawatts of solar energy daily, and it’s 30% more in space,” he said.
He further explained how solar panels work, considering factors like efficiency and daylight hours, and said that one square mile of solar panels could generate about 3 GWh of energy per day.
Musk, who runs Tesla’s Solar division, is confident that solar energy is the key to powering the future and already uses it to power the Starlink global satellite network.
