Coromandel Launches 10 Products to Boost Crop Yields and Battle Pests

Coromandel International, an agro-chemical company, has launched 10 new products to help increase crop yields and protect them from pests and diseases. Among these products is a unique neem-coated bio plant and soil health promoter, along with five generic formulations for crop protection.

One of the key products, called Prachand, was developed in partnership with Japan’s ISK. It uses Japanese technology to protect paddy crops from pests like stem borers and leaf folders, which can reduce yields by up to 70%.

Coromandel has also created a formulation to fight the fall armyworm, a pest that can destroy up to 30% of India’s corn crop each year.

The company introduced two new patented fungicides aimed at improving crop health and yields. One fungicide provides long-lasting control of sheath blight disease in rice, while the other works against diseases in potatoes, grapes, and tomatoes by offering both surface and systemic protection.

These new products come at a crucial time as Indian farmers face increasing pest problems that threaten crop production. Coromandel reported that 15% of its sales in the fiscal year ending March 2024 came from new products.

“This is the first time Coromandel has introduced 10 new products in one year,” said Raghuram Devarakonda, Executive Director of the company’s crop protection and bioproducts division. The new products include one developed through Japanese collaboration and four from the company’s own research. Devarakonda emphasized that Coromandel continues to lead in agricultural innovation in India.
