Cognizant has announced that Rajesh Varrier, previously with Infosys, will take over as the new Global Head of Operations and the Chairman & Managing Director for India. He steps into these roles following Rajesh Nambiar’s resignation, who is set to become the new president of Nasscom.
Nambiar will succeed Debjani Ghosh as Nasscom’s president in November 2024, after serving on Nasscom’s Executive Council and as its chairperson in 2023.
Varrier, starting on September 2, 2024, will oversee Cognizant’s operations, delivery, workforce planning, and India leadership. He will officially assume the India MD role on October 1, 2024. Reporting directly to Cognizant’s CEO, Ravi Kumar S, Varrier brings extensive experience from his previous roles at Infosys, where he was the Head of Global Services and led their Digital and Microsoft businesses.
Before Infosys, Varrier held positions as CIO and Digital Officer at Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance and was the founder of the analytics firm Activecubes. He holds degrees in Physics and Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
As Nasscom’s incoming president, Nambiar highlighted the importance of transitioning to AI-driven companies and investing in talent and R&D. Current Nasscom president Debjani Ghosh praised Nambiar, expressing confidence in his ability to further strengthen India’s tech sector.
