Coal India’s NCL Contributes Rs 15,000 Crore to Govt in FY24, Focuses on Power Sector and Regional Development

Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), a part of Coal India, contributed Rs 15,000 crore to the central and state governments in FY24 through royalty and GST, said CMD B Sairam. The company sent 94% of its coal to the power sector, reaffirming its commitment to national energy security.

Speaking at the Singrauli Industrial Summit 2024 at NCL’s headquarters, Sairam highlighted the company’s efforts towards the inclusive development of the Singrauli region and stressed the importance of an integrated approach for holistic development.

The summit aimed to drive economic growth, sustainable industrial growth, diversification, and create employment opportunities for regional development. Discussions covered opportunities in sectors like energy, aluminum, cement, chemicals, and infrastructure, and a panel talked about the long-term development of Singrauli.

An e-book titled ‘Industrial Landscape of Singrauli Region’ was released at the summit. NCL aims to produce and dispatch 139 million tonnes (MT) of coal this fiscal year. In 2023-24, NCL produced 136.15 MT of coal, dispatched 137.63 MT, and spent Rs 4,727 crore on capital expenditures.

NCL operates out of 10 highly mechanized open-cast coal mines in the Singrauli and Sonbhadra regions of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
