Brookfield to Invest ₹50,000 Crore in Andhra Pradesh’s Green Energy Boom

Brookfield has announced plans to invest over ₹50,000 crore in renewable energy projects in Andhra Pradesh over the next three to five years. This could be the largest foreign investment in India’s green energy sector.

Through its Evren platform, Brookfield aims to develop 8.66 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar power in the state. Senior executives from Brookfield, which manages $102 billion in renewable assets globally, recently met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to discuss these plans. Naidu confirmed Brookfield’s interest in solar, wind, and rooftop energy projects in the state.

Brookfield is also exploring investments in advanced technologies like solar module manufacturing and pumped storage in Andhra Pradesh. The company plans to add nearly 1.4 GW of solar power by 2026, with more capacity being added in subsequent years. For wind energy, it will add 1.64 GW by 2026 and further increase capacity in the following years.

Overall, Brookfield plans to add almost 9 GW of renewable energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh. The state has significant potential for wind energy, with estimates of 74.9 GW at 120 meters above ground level and 123 GW at 150 meters. As of July 31, Andhra Pradesh had an installed wind energy capacity of 4.1 GW and solar capacity of 4.3 GW.

With about 40 GW of new transmission capacity being developed in the state, renewable energy growth is expected to accelerate, according to Ravi Kumar Reddy, chairman of Evren.
