Birlasoft, GNFC, and IEX Among 14 Stocks Banned from F&O Trading on October 21

On Monday, October 21, 14 stocks were banned from trading in the futures and options (F&O) segment of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) because they surpassed 95% of the market-wide position limit (MWPL). However, these stocks can still be traded in the cash market. The NSE reviews and updates the list of stocks in the F&O ban on a daily basis.

Stocks in F&O Ban Today

The following 14 stocks are on the F&O ban list:

  • Aarti Industries
  • Bandhan Bank
  • Birlasoft
  • Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals
  • GNFC
  • Granules India
  • Hindustan Copper
  • IDFC First Bank
  • India Energy Exchange (IEX)
  • L&T Finance
  • National Aluminium Company
  • PNB
  • SAIL
  • Tata Chemicals

These stocks exceeded 95% of their market-wide position limit and are currently under a ban. According to the NSE, traders can only reduce their positions in these securities during the ban period, and no new positions can be added. Increasing open positions in banned stocks could result in penalties and disciplinary actions.

Market Recap

On October 18, both benchmark indices—Sensex and Nifty 50—recovered after three consecutive days of losses. Boosted by strong buying in banking, financial, and metal stocks, along with favorable global market trends, the market saw a bounce back.

  • Sensex rose 218.14 points (0.27%) to close at 81,224.75.
  • Nifty 50 ended 104.20 points higher (0.42%) at 24,854.05.

While the BSE midcap index rose by 0.21%, the smallcap index dipped slightly by 0.16%. The Bankex index gained the most, climbing 1.84%, followed by metal stocks (up 1.65%) and financial services (up 1.12%).

Sector-wise, commodities, utilities, and auto stocks also saw gains, contributing to the market’s overall recovery.
