Bajaj Auto Probes Chetak EV Smoke Incident While Shares Stay Strong

Bajaj Auto is investigating an incident of “smoke emission” from a plastic component in its Chetak electric scooter. The event occurred on December 5 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

What Happened?

The company stated that there was no fire or battery damage involved, and the motor also remained unaffected. The issue was limited to a plastic part emitting smoke. The materials in the battery pack ensured the scooter’s safety despite the incident.

A Bajaj Auto spokesperson reassured customers, saying, “The dealer partner quickly moved the scooter to the service center for a detailed check. Thankfully, no one was harmed.”

Investigation Underway

Bajaj Auto has launched a thorough probe to determine the exact cause of the incident and has reiterated its commitment to delivering safe and high-quality products. Customers are advised to use authorized service centers to maintain their Chetak EVs for the best safety standards.

Stock Performance

Despite the news, Bajaj Auto shares remained resilient. On Tuesday, the stock closed at ₹9,016.7, down 0.6%. It has gained 35% this year and an impressive 150% over the last two years. The company’s market cap now stands at ₹2.51 lakh crore.

This incident comes as Bajaj Auto continues to make strides in the EV market, maintaining its focus on safety and customer trust.
