Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked a significant moment by performing the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the 50 MW Solar Project in Sitalmari village, Sonitpur, developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN.
The solar project, estimated at Rs. 291 crores, is set to be constructed in Barsola Block under Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector. Expected to generate 101 million units of green energy in the first year, the cumulative energy production over 25 years is projected to be about 2,319 million units. The Assam Power Development Corporation Limited will receive the energy at a rate of Rs. 3.92 per unit.
Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, highlighted that the company is making strides in Assam, with SGEL working on three solar projects totaling 320 MW capacity in the state. The 70 MW Solar Project in Dhubri, Assam, had its foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 2024.
SJVN Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise, started its journey in 1988 and has since diversified into various energy forms, including hydro, thermal, wind, solar, power trading, and transmission. The company is listed and has already commissioned thirteen projects with a total installed capacity of 2377 MW.
Looking ahead, SJVN has ambitious goals, aiming for 25,000 MW installed capacity by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040. This aligns with the Government of India’s commitment to having 50% of its power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based sources by 2030.”
