Amazon Ramps Up Speed: From Soap to iPhone16, Same-Day Delivery Now Across India

Amazon India is ramping up its investment to improve delivery speed, responding to customer demand for quicker service. People now want everything, from soap to pizza, delivered within hours instead of days.

Saurabh Srivastava, Amazon India’s vice-president for categories, stated, “We deliver 1 million products the same day to Prime members and 4 million the next day. Our goal is to get the most products to the most customers as quickly as possible.” The company has recently introduced sub-same-day delivery in metro areas, promising to deliver items within 4 to 6 hours after ordering.

Same-Day Delivery

Amazon has been working on reducing delivery times in India for a while. In 2022, it expanded same-day delivery options for Prime members to over 50 cities. Customers can now get thousands of products, including electronics, books, and personal care items, delivered within four hours for free. Delivery options vary depending on whether the customer is a Prime member and their location.

Quick Commerce

This push comes as quick commerce becomes more popular, with competitors like Flipkart and Zepto offering rapid deliveries. Amazon’s Fresh service also provides same-day grocery delivery in 130 cities.

Amazon believes that while quick commerce is exciting, its strategy focuses on a wide selection of products, competitive prices, and fast delivery across India.

New Fulfilment Centres

Recently, Amazon opened three new fulfilment centres in Delhi-NCR, Guwahati, and Patna. These centres will enhance delivery speeds, especially during the festive season. Amazon has centres in 50 cities in India to meet product demand, and they are continuously adding more for faster service.

Amazon is also preparing for its Great Indian Festival 2024, its annual festive sale starting later this month. Srivastava mentioned that last year’s festival was the biggest ever, with 1.1 billion visits and nearly 4 million new customers. This year, they expect to surpass those numbers significantly.
