Air India has announced a new partnership with Delhi Metro and Delhi airport to offer check-in services for international passengers at two metro stations in Delhi. This service allows travelers to check in their baggage at the metro stations, giving them the freedom to explore the city without carrying their luggage. The baggage is securely transferred to the aircraft using an advanced automated system developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL).
Currently available for domestic flights, this service will now be extended to international passengers and will operate at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations from 7 am to 9 pm. Passengers can check in their baggage 12 hours to 2 hours before domestic flights and 4 to 2 hours before international flights.
The metro runs every 10 minutes, and it takes only 19 minutes to reach the departure level at Delhi airport’s Terminal 3, making the journey quicker and more convenient.
“This initiative offers a cost-effective option for travelers from far-off places and helps reduce congestion at the airport, enhancing the overall experience for our customers,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India.
