The Adani Group’s Vizhinjam port will significantly reduce logistics costs and transit times for Indian manufacturers, according to Adani Ports and SEZ’s CEO, Karan Adani.
“This port will cut transit time for our customers by almost 30 to 40 percent, making Indian manufacturers more competitive globally. It will also lower logistics costs,” Karan Adani told ANI.
He expects a 4-5 percent reduction in logistics costs through the Vizhinjam port.
Adani Ports and SEZ announced the arrival of the first mother ship at Vizhinjam port, marking India’s entry into global transshipment.
“Once we get the environment clearance, we will complete phases two, three, and four, adding 1.2 kilometers of berth length,” Karan Adani said. He added that the port’s full capacity would be 5 million TEUs.
The port aims to employ local youth and become one of the most technologically advanced ports in South Asia.
The Group has spent almost 65 crores in CSR so far.
The project has received support from all political parties, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the milestone event, celebrating the port’s impact on India’s global trade.
The Vizhinjam port will help reduce the 75 percent of India’s transshipped cargo currently handled by foreign ports. It will facilitate trade along major routes connecting India with the US, Europe, Africa, and the Far East.
Adani Ports is developing this critical infrastructure project in partnership with the Government of Kerala.
