Adani Secures 6,600 MW Power Deal at ₹4.08/unit, Outbids JSW & Torrent with Massive Solar & Thermal Supply to Maharashtra

Adani Group has won a major contract to supply 6,600 MW of renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra at a tariff of Rs 4.08 per unit. This bid beat competitors like JSW and Torrent Power.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) will sign a long-term agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to supply 5,000 MW of solar power. This solar power will come from the world’s largest renewable energy park, currently being developed in Khavda, Kutch, Gujarat.

Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private thermal power producer, will also sign a long-term agreement with MSEDCL. APL will supply 1,496 MW of thermal power from its new 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant.

The deal was secured through a competitive bidding process initiated by MSEDCL. The tender allowed APL to bid for both thermal and solar power capacity, which could be supplied by a group company. APL bid for 5,000 MW of solar power on behalf of AGEL, leveraging both companies’ strengths in the thermal and solar power sectors.

The solar power will be supplied at a flat rate of INR 2.70 per kWh for 25 years. The solar projects will be connected to the Inter-State Transmission System and developed over the next three years.

The thermal power capacity will be built on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis, with fuel sourced from coal linkages under the SHAKTI Policy. APL will provide 1,496 MW of thermal power under a 25-year agreement with MSEDCL. The new thermal plant will use ultra-supercritical technology and is expected to begin supplying power in about 3.5 to 4 years.

Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, said, “Our goal is to speed up India’s clean energy transition. This is a big step toward energy independence and a sustainable future for the country.” He also mentioned that Adani Green is on track to reach its goal of producing 50 GW of renewable energy with secured sites, a balanced energy portfolio, and a solid supply chain.
