Adani Power Plans Major Expansion to Double Capacity by 2030

Adani Power Ltd. (APL) is planning to expand its capacity through acquisitions, said CEO Shersingh B Khyalia during an earnings call. The company is also looking at projects to add 4,800 MW of power.

APL, based in Ahmedabad, is working on three projects of 1,600 MW each in Raipur, Raigarh, and Mirzapur. The Raipur and Raigarh projects will expand existing plants in Chhattisgarh, while the Mirzapur project in Uttar Pradesh is managed by Adani Power’s subsidiary, Mirzapur Thermal Energy (UP) Pvt Ltd.

“We are waiting for approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for our plans involving Lanco Amarkantak and Coastal Energen. This will add 1,800 MW of operating capacity and 1,320 MW of under-construction capacity,” said Khyalia. With these expansions, Adani Power aims to reach a capacity of 30.67 GW by 2029-30, up from the current 15 GW.

“We are using a flexible business model and integrated approach to ensure successful project execution and operations,” Khyalia added.

Previously, ET reported that APL is constructing a 1,600 MW greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Mirzapur as part of its strategy to double its thermal power capacity to around 30 GW. This unit is being developed by Mirzapur Thermal Energy (UP) Pvt Ltd.
