Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed a contract worth over ₹11,000 crore (excluding GST) with Adani Power Limited (APL) and its subsidiary Mahan Energen Limited (MEL) to develop three large Supercritical Thermal Power projects in India.
This deal is a significant step forward for India’s power infrastructure and highlights BHEL’s important role in the sector.
The agreement, finalized on Sunday (August 25), includes supplying critical equipment and overseeing the installation and commissioning processes for the three power projects. Each project will have a capacity of 2×800 MW and will use advanced Supercritical Technology. The projects will be located in Kawai Phase-II and Kawai Phase-III in Rajasthan, and Mahan Phase-III in Madhya Pradesh.
Under this contract, BHEL will supply key equipment like Boilers, Turbines, Generators, and related systems. They will also handle the control and instrumentation systems, ensuring that everything is installed and operates smoothly according to required standards.
The timeline for completing these projects varies. The Kawai Phase-II project is expected to be completed in 49 months, Kawai Phase-III in 52 months, and Mahan Phase-III in 55 months. These timelines reflect the complexity and scale of the projects.
The contracts were awarded by Adani Power Limited and Mahan Energen Limited, which are both domestic companies. There is no involvement of promoter or group companies in the awarding entities, and the contracts are not considered related party transactions, meaning they were conducted at arm’s length.
