Adani Electricity Used Renewable Source To Supply Power To Mumbai On Diwali Day

Adani Electricity, the power utility company, announced on Monday that it exclusively relied on renewable sources to supply power to Mumbai for four hours on Diwali day. During this period, Adani Electricity delivered 1,200 MW of power from renewable sources to its 3 million subscribers between 10 AM and 2 PM, covering over 40% of the financial capital’s power needs.

On Diwali morning, Mumbai’s peak power demand exceeded 2,500 MW, reaching 2,776 MW in the evening. The announcement comes as Mumbai grapples with high pollution levels and endeavors to improve air quality.

Adani Electricity strategically planned the initiative in advance, sourcing power from solar and wind generation. The company’s managing director, Kandarp Patel, stated, “Achieving 100% renewable energy is a first and a significant milestone in Mumbai’s energy transition, demonstrating that renewables can significantly power Mumbai city with reliable and sustainable electricity at competitive tariffs.”

The statement revealed that in 2023, the company has sourced 38% of the power supplied to consumers from renewable sources. Adani Electricity affirmed its commitment to increasing this percentage to 60% by 2027.
