RailTel, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways, has clinched a significant order worth Rs 66.83 crore from the North East Frontier Railway. The order pertains to the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of an Integrated Tunnel Communication system, Emergency Call Arrangements in tunnels, and the Integrated Passenger Information System (IPIS) at stations in the Bhairabi-Sairang new single line section of Lumding Division.
Recognizing the challenge posed by interrupted communication inside tunnels due to poor signal coverage, RailTel’s integrated tunnel communication system aims to ensure seamless radio communication between handheld radios within tunnels, the base station at tunnel control rooms, and station masters of adjacent stations. The project’s goal is to establish continuous coverage along the entire tunnel length, providing clear audio without interference and reliable operation in harsh environmental conditions within the tunnel. The system offers trunked radio channels across various bands and features user-friendly operation and maintenance, contributing to an efficient communication infrastructure within the tunnels.
The Bhairabi-Sairang new line project, known for its challenging terrain and logistical difficulties, involves the provision of IT data networking infrastructure, PA & Emergency/SOS Call Points system, IP-based CCTV Surveillance System. The comprehensive scope of work also encompasses the design, supply, installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of an integrated communication system VHF (Simplex) and backbone network for smart facilities & Emergency communication system.
